University-Wide Faculty Resources and Processes

Graduate School of Arts & Sciences
McCourt School of Public Policy
McDonough School of Business
School of Continuing Studies
Walsh School of Foreign Service and Georgetown University Qatar
The Medical Center CampusSchool of Health
School of Medicine
School of Nursing

Faculty members may also be jointly appointed across schools or campuses. Each school has a constitution, and faculty bodies on each campus support our shared governance. Each of the campuses is governed by an Executive Vice President who oversees the deans and faculty members within their campus. The Provost is the Executive Vice President of the Main Campus. All faculty must adhere to the Georgetown University Faculty Handbook.

Faculty appointments are conferred by an Executive Vice President or the University President. Tenure is awarded by the University President, who is advised by the University Committee on Rank and Tenure, a committee of full professors drawn from the three campuses.

The Faculty Senate is a university-wide faculty governance body that advises the University President on academic, administrative, and financial issues that affect all three campuses. You may learn more about how the Senate works, when upcoming Senate meetings are taking place throughout the academic year, and matters discussed at past meetings by visiting the Faculty Senate website.

If you are concerned about a potential violation of your rights as a faculty member, the Faculty Grievance Code outlines how you may raise your concern and seek recourse through the University-wide Faculty Grievance Committee.

If you believe a faculty member has failed to meet the responsibilities set forth in the Faculty Handbook, such allegations are governed by the Faculty Responsibilities Code and may be reviewed by the University-wide Faculty Responsibilities Committee.
